Preveza: At the mouth of Amvrakikos Gulf

 

Preveza town is located at the mouth of Amvrakikos Gulf, in Western Greece. It is the capital of Preveza Regional Unit. There, you will find the local administrative, commercial, cultural and also tourist services.

Present day Preveza was built on the site of ancient Vereniki town. Pyrrhus, the Greek King of Epirus in 290 BC founded her. Moreover, Preveza was built during the late 11th c., after ancient Nikopolis town was deserted. It was conquered many times across the centuries. Then, it became part of Greece in 1912. By car, it is a 360 km journey NW of Athens (via Rio – Antirrio Bridge), and a 350 km trip SW of Thessaloniki (via Ioannina – Kozani – Veroia).
